March 7. Sydney, Australia. We walked through Sydney and Darling Harbour. At Darling Harbour we wandered through the Chinese gardens. Great British Sailaway as we left.
March 10. Milford Sound, New Zealand. A sail-in to Milford Sound. Last time I was here, I flew in with Angie. We saw Britannia Falls and Lady Bowen Falls.
March 11. Dunedin, New Zealand.. This was a day with a difference. Yvonne wanted to go jet-boating and so we all went to the town of Beaumont on to the Clutha River. We had a great time. There were only the six of us in
the boat. We went 10 kilometres up the river, which is New Zealand's fastest moving. We went as far as a floating gold mine. On the way back we saw a genuine gold miner, panning by the side of the river. The driver threw us
through about four 360 degree turns. We got wet! After that we drove through Roxburgh to Roxburgh Lake formed by a dam on the Clutha.
March 12. Akaroa, New Zealand. This is a small place that is currently used by cruise ships as the port for Christchurch since it's port was damaged in the earthquake. Not a lot to see here, but a pretty enough village.
March 13. Wellington, New Zealand. My second visit in two years. This time Rob, Barbara and I visited Parliament. There are three main buildings, a modern one called the Beehive, an early 20th century one and a late 19th
century one. After that, Phil joined us and we went on a beer trail. Wellington is famous for its micro-breweries and craft beers. We managed 5 different ports of call!
March 18. Apia, Samoa. The South Pacific had suffered one of the five worst cyclones in recorded history whilst we were in New Zealand. It's name was Cyclone Pam. Because of this we took evasive action, which necessitated
this port being dropped from our itinerary.
March 18. Pago Pago, American Samoa. We crossed the International Dateline and so we had March 18 again. We hired a bus and first drove along the east road, past Two Dollar Beach all the way to see 'Aunu'u Island. We passed
Tutuila Island. We then went along the west road to Leone. There was a memorial to the 2009 tsunami in which many people died. The memorial was a grave for eleven of the victims. We drove back past Turtle and Shark Legend
Beach. After that, Barbara and I had egg and chips in a local restaurant. Wonderful.
March 20. Pacific Ocean. Today we crossed the Equator heading back into the Northern Hemisphere. Once again we had to ask Neptune's permission.
March 24. Honolulu, Hawaii, USA. After US immigration on board, we had a late start. Barbara and I went shopping in the morning and then after a late lunch we went to Waikiki Beach and strolled along it.
March 25. Hilo, Hawaii, USA. A day I'd been looking forward for a long time. Rob and I flew in a helicopter over a volcano, with no doors on! We flew over macadamia plantations on our way to lava fields. We could see lava
flowing along the ground. We could feel the heat from below. Then we flew over Mount Kiluaea, where we could see the smoke pouring from the cone. It has been the worlds most active volcano, having been erupting lava since
1985. After we returned, we strolled around the town, which is fairly non-descript.
March 30. San Francisco, California, USA. The last day of the fourth sector. Barbara, Rob, Linda and I took a tour to Muir Woods, travelling over the Golden Gate Bridge. We walked through giant redwoods along a stream in the woods.
We saw a fawn hiding under a tree, but I wasn't able to get a photo. We then went on to Sausalito, a small pretty town with great views of Alcatraz Island and San Francisco. After that we went for a stroll along Fisherman's Wharf.
In the evening Rob, Barbara and I went for a good sea food meal nearby. It was good to eat off the ship.
