Three days in Madrid, May 2010. I stayed on the Gran Via, which is one of the main roads in Madrid. The weather was hot and sunny most of the time. I saw Guernica in the Reina Sofia Museum, I also went to the Prado and the Thyssen museums. There's an open top bus that drives round Madrid and I went on that too, it's a quick and easy way to get round, though Madrid is eminently walkable. I took in the Royal Palace and Almudena Cathedral. Had a coffee in the Plaza Mayor and saw kilometre zero, where all Spanish distances are measured from.
I also went on a tapas tour one evening, where we tried four different tapas bars and drinks. I ate tripe (not too bad, but never again) and pork sweetbreads too (the texture was grim)! The plane was four hours late coming home thanks to the French Air Traffic Controllers striking. A nice visit.
