Javon's visit to Venice and York

21 August. Milton Keynes, England. An easy day, roast lunch at a local pub and a walk round Willen Lake.

22 August. Venice, Italy. An early start. We took the airport boat to Saint Mark's where we walked 5 minutes to the hotel. Lunch was nachos in the Hard Rock Cafe, his 13th Hard Rock. In the evening we took a food tour, with a lot of Americans. There was plenty of food and drink. Javon decided he was drunk, so we walked back to the hotel. We walked because we couldn't find a vaporetto stop!

23 August. Venice, Italy. After breakfast we took a vaporetto to Rialto. We looked around both the fish and fruit and vegetable markets. We ate a delicious sea food soup for lunch in a restaurant behind the hotel. Then we took a tour of both St. Mark's Basilica and the Doge's Palace. The tour of the Basilica gave us access to the terrace, which gave us a different view of the square. We managed to lose our guide in the Palace, so had to do the tour on our own.

24 August. Venice, Italy. An early(ish) start for a trip to Murano, where we saw a glass making demonstration and then on to Burano where we had lunch and just wandered around the cute little town. All the little houses are different colours and apparently, whichever colour it is when you buy it, is the colour it stays. It really is a pretty little town. In the early evening we had a gondola ride, just the two of us. It was chaos at the boarding place, but amazingly, we got away on time. A nice end to the trip. Dinner included an even better sea food soup. All in all a nice little trip.

27 August. York, England. A very easy drive up despite being August bank holiday weekend. We walked into York passing by Fishergate Postern Tower, which isn't open often but we were able to go inside. There was a Tudor loo in there. We then went to the Jorvik Centre, which was OK. After a visit to The Shambles, we had fish and chips, took a look at the outside of the Minster and then a long walk back to the hotel (we went the wrong way)!

28 August. York, England. A visit to the National Railway Museum, followed by a look at the free part of the York Art Gallery. Then a slow stroll through York back to the hotel.

31 August. London, England. Just a day visit this time around. We started off in Camden Market, before heading to the Sky Gardens. Great views and a glass of champagne each. Then it was off to Harrods for a quick look at the Food Halls. Sadly the wonderful fish display is no more. Off to the West End then. A roam around Chinatown and then to Leicester Square, which is undergoing refurbishment, so no chance to see the statues, which was the point of going there. Trafalgar Square next and then into Covent Garden for the reason of this visit. The Cheese Bar, which has a sushi like conveyer belt, but with little dishes of various British cheeses and meats. We ate too much and left before our time was up!
