16 May. Today I went on an Outback Safari tour. Our first stop was at a school and we saw a class of 5/6 year olds. All very cute. One of the couples on this tour had been before and so brought along pencils, crayons and exercise books with them.
The kids were over the moon. After that, we went to a 'typical' Dominican house. It consisted of three separate buildings, a three room house with living quarters and two bedrooms, a kitchen with a clay cooking area and a sink half in and half out
of the building and a separate loo. This house stood on 8 acres of land and we saw the sort of stuff they grow, pineapples, coffee, cacao, pumpkins, tomatoes and such stuff. After a typical Dominican lunch of pasta, rice, beans and chicken, we ended
up on a scrappy little beach to go body boarding.
18 May. Today's trip was a city tour. We started with a trip on the cable car to the top of Isabel de Torres, which is 800 metres high. On top of this is a smaller but exact copy of Cristo Redentor in Brazil. Then a call in to the Macorix rum
factory, where I tasted all 8 rums they distil. After that we went to an amber store and museum. Way more store than museum though. After lunch I visited the Catedral San Felipe Apóstol, and a chocolate factory. Long, tiring, but interesting, and
the rain kept away.
